Michigan's Public Safety Broadband Work Group

The MiPSB Work group is established under Michigan's Public Safety Communications Interoperability Board (MPSCIB), the State's Interoperable Governing Board. The Workgroup is comprised of a cross-functional, geographically diverse team that include representation from local, state, and tribal entities. Its purpose is to gather, analyze, and disseminate information relevant to the activities of FirstNet, and aggregate the information into recommendations for the MPSCIB.

Michigan's Public Safety Broadband Program

FirstNet is required to consult with regional, state, tribal, and local jurisdictions to ensure that the FirstNet network is designed to meet the needs of the public safety across the country.  In Michigan, FirstNet works through the State's Single Point of Contact (SPOC) and the MiPSB Program to gather requirements from key stakeholders.  The MiPSB Program, established under the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget (DTMB), provides direction and administrative support for Michigan's public safety broadband initiatives and is actively working with the MiPSB Workgroup and FirstNet to develop a strategic approach for the deployment and operation of the FirstNet network within Michigan.

  • Interfacing Emergency Communications Centers with FirstNet PDF icon

Under the State and Local Implementation Grant Program 2.0 (SLIGP 2.0), the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) assessed the readiness of emergency communication centers (ECCs) in the state for implementation of the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet)'s nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN). The purpose was to gain an understanding of the challenges faced in implementing Next Generation 911 (NG911) and other technologies and the integration of such systems with the NPSBN, to measure the level of interest in the NPSBN, and to identify proposed uses of the network as it is deployed throughout Michigan.
