What is the state doing to protect homeowners from falling into foreclosure during this crisis?

On March 18th, Governor Whitmer signed an Executive Order temporarily extending the tax foreclosure deadline for Michigan residents to pay back taxes and avoid foreclosure on their property during the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. That order was replaced by Executive Order 2020-99 on May 22nd and moves the tax deadline from March 31, 2020 to June 19, 2020 or 30 days after the state of emergency declared in Executive Order 2020-99 is terminated, whichever comes first.

If your situation does not change before the extension deadline and you are still experiencing trouble paying your property taxes, please contact your county treasurer’s office directly.
