MSHDA launches State of Michigan Regional Roadshows to detail new housing initiatives

Discussions will surround Michigan Housing and Community Development Fund, Statewide Housing Plan

LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has announced it will hold five State of Michigan Regional Roadshows in communities across the state aimed at spreading awareness and information on the Michigan Housing and Community Development Fund (HCDF), Statewide Housing Plan and other attainable housing-related discussions and initiatives. The event series begins October 11 in Saginaw and concludes October 25 in Marquette.

“Every Michigander deserves a place to call home, and the Housing and Community Development Fund and Statewide Housing Plan will help us stay focused on actions we can take to build more affordable housing, leverage private investment, and lower costs for current renters and buyers,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “By executing on our plan and securing funding solutions to support creative approaches to attainable housing, we can build economic opportunity in our community by giving people a launching pad for success. Best of all, we have the momentum—earlier this year, I signed the bipartisan Building Michigan Together Plan, which included some of the largest ever investments in affordable housing in Michigan history. Let’s get it done.”

In addition to MSHDA, the regional roadshows also will feature facilitated discussions with the Office of Rural Development, State Land Bank Authority and Michigan Economic Development Corporation, on regional housing initiatives and roles, blight elimination and housing and economic resources. Event locations and dates include:

“With 38% of Michigan households struggling to afford basic necessities like housing, childcare, food, and more, these Regional Roadshows will give us an opportunity to promote MSHDA’s programs and available resources at a grassroots level with those who need them most,” said Tiffany King, equity and inclusion officer at MSHDA. “As an outcome-oriented organization, we’re eager to hear from the community this month about how we can strategically leverage these new initiatives to address current and long-standing challenges to create a better, people-centric housing landscape for all.”
