How to Begin the Application Process


Application Process - Step One

Step One: Take the Civil Service Entry Level Law Enforcement Exam or National Testing Network (NTN) for out of state applicants. The test is valid for 5 years.

Begin the application process for the Entry Level Law Enforcement Exam. You will be asked to create a username and password if this is the first time you are accessing the Michigan Jobs website. Once you have applied, you will receive an automated response that your application was received. You will be contacted via email within 2-3 business days, with a scheduled date, time, location and further instructions about the exam.

Search for local NTN testing locations for out of state applicants.

Study Materials: A practice test is available for purchase at Users must create an account to access the practice test. The practice test is not mandatory.

Application Process - Step Two

Step Two: Schedule and complete the MCOLES Physical Fitness Test at a Regional Academy. View regional test dates and instructions, which are updated monthly. 


Application Process - Step ThreeStep Three: Apply to your desired position. 

After you have passed the Entry Level Law Enforcement Exam and have passed and retained a copy of your MCOLES Physical Fitness Test results, you can now apply to the Trooper Recruit position or the Motor Carrier Officer Recruit postion.
