Online Services
The Michigan State Police (MSP) has established this web site as the official Internet source for Sex Offender Registration information. The Sex Offender Registration open record information is extracted from the MSP Sex Offender Registration database.
The information provided through this web site is public record. It is made available for the purpose of protecting the public. However, it is your responsibility to make sure the records you access through this site pertain to the person about whom you are seeking information. Extreme care should be exercised in using any information obtained from this web site. Neither the MSP nor the state of Michigan shall be responsible for any errors or omissions produced by secondary dissemination of this information. Anyone who uses this information to commit a criminal act against another person is subject to criminal prosecution. However, information provided by convicted sex offenders is often submitted intentionally in error.
ICHAT - Internet Criminal History Tool (Background Checks)
Anyone can search the official Michigan State Police (MSP) criminal history record database for $10.00 per search, using a Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit or debit card. At a minimum, the full name of the person and his/her date of birth are required to complete the search. The database is updated daily with felony, misdemeanor and local ordinance violation information as reported to the state repository by law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and courts in all 83 Michigan counties. Some misdemeanors and local ordinance violations are not required to be reported to the database and, if unreported, will not be retrieved as part of a search.
The Internet Criminal History Access Tool (ICHAT) system will report all conviction or juvenile adjudication information in the MSP database that has not been suppressed by the courts. It will report on open arrest cases if the arrest is less than 1 year prior to the date of search; juvenile open cases will only be reported if the database has received both arrest and prosecutor information.
Cases that have been reported to the database as being closed without a conviction or juvenile adjudication will NOT be given out by ICHAT. Suppressed records, warrant information, federal records, tribal records, and criminal histories from other states are not available through ICHAT. Out of state criminal history information requires direct contact with the state of conviction.
Traffic Crash Purchasing System
The Traffic Crash Purchasing System (TCPS) offers traffic crash reports, provided by all Michigan law enforcement agencies, for a $10.00 fee. Many insurance companies require clients, who have been involved in a traffic crash, to obtain a copy of the crash report for claims processing. TCPS provides a convenient way to obtain the crash report, without leaving home.
Credit card payment for the crash report is required prior to viewing or printing the Crash Report image. All charges incurred will be in US currency.
If you represent a business that would like to register for special billing arrangements for crash report purchases, please click the Contact Info / FAQ link for more information.
