Motor Carrier Officers to Participate in Traffic Safety Operation Focusing on Hazardous Materials

Beginning today, Monday, June 21, Michigan State Police (MSP) motor carrier officers will be conducting inspections throughout the state with a focus on hazardous materials. This enforcement operation is part of the annual Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Hazardous Material Road Blitz and will take place throughout North America June 21-25.

To ensure commercial vehicles are in working order to safely transport hazardous materials, the inspections will include checking shipping papers, packaging, cargo securement, hazardous material components, brake systems, coupling devices, driveline/driveshaft components, frames, fuel systems, lighting devices, steering mechanisms, suspensions, tires, van and open-top trailer bodies, tankers, wheels, and electrical systems.

Drivers will be asked to provide operating credentials and hours-of-service documentation. Inspectors will also be attentive to apparent alcohol and/or drug impairment.
