Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO)
This class is open to civilian or enlisted members who are highly motivated and exemplify the traits of a future leader. Supervisor and Leadership Development classes are not a prerequisite for LPO. Department members that have attended Supervisor and/or Leadership Development, Staff and Command, or that have attended the FBI National Academy are encouraged to attend LPO, as this class supplements these courses. LPO was developed by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and is taught by senior IACP instructors. The course emphasizes applied learning, is very interactive, and utilizes small group case studies, videos, role playing, and class exercises to reinforce learning. This class will be offered one week at a time over a three month period.

Prior to start of week 1, students will be required to complete pre-course work, which is assigned during a web-based orientation. In addition, students will be required to complete daily reading, journaling and assignments, in addition to classroom work.
District and Division commanders are asked to identify members under their command to attend this course. Considerations for selection should include experience, motivation, interest, past performance, leadership abilities and a willingness to apply the techniques learned.
