Commercial motor vehicle regulations exist to ensure the safety of the motoring public. These regulations, state and federal, were enacted to ensure the trucking industry operates safely and have been enforced primarily by Michigan State Police motor carrier officers. As a result a "knowledge gap" of these regulations has been identified, impacting the enforcement efforts of enlisted members during large truck and bus traffic enforcement.

Pursuant to the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards requirement, speed measurement operators and instructors must be recertified every five years. The Michigan State Police has developed an online training to recertify speed measurement operators, that is available free of charge to all law enforcement agencies. The training consists of a series of 6 video segments, with test questions at the end of 5 of those segments.

Drug and Alcohol Training for Supervisors - Reasonable Suspicion Testing |

This training program will present details of the Michigan State Police drug and alcohol testing program. We will discuss some basics of the program, offer definitions, and explain different types of testing done by the department. The remainder of the training will provide information about the Reasonable Suspicion Testing program and what role you, as a supervisor, play in dealing with the employee before, during, and after a Reasonable Suspicion Test.
