MSP Motorcycle School
The MSP Basic Police Motorcycle Operator Program is a 92 hour program which includes five hours of classroom instruction and 87 hours of hands-on training. Classroom instruction includes Curve Negotiation, Defensive Riding and Traffic Stops. Practical exercises include training for low speed, tight maneuvering as well as evasive maneuvering, controlled braking, curve negotiation and traffic stops. A written examination and practical skills evaluations will be completed. Students must provide their own departmental motorcycle as well as necessary personal protective equipment (over the ankle boots, protective jacket and eye protection). The motorcycle trained on must be a factory backed, VIN designated police motorcycle (Harley-Davidson or BMW). Harley-Davidson motorcycles are preferred.
