A northern Michigan native, Andy served as a Cavalry Scout in the U.S. Army's 2nd Armored Division from 1987-90. He used his military educational benefits to attend and graduate with honors from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1994.

In 2006 and 2007, he won back-to-back Michigan Excellence in Journalism awards from the Detroit Press Club for stories on the Oakland County hospital battle and Iraq War veterans' struggles and successes in returning to the workplace.
Crossing over to public relations in 2007, Andy worked for 10 years at his alma mater, promoting MSU in the national and international news media. He joined the MVAA in November 2018 and considers it an honor to serve his fellow veterans and their families.
He is married to Tracy, a teacher and communications professional, and they live in Okemos with their children and dogs. In his free time, he enjoys reading, traveling, camping and rooting for the Spartans, Tigers and Lions.
