Outdoor Adventure Center Birthday Parties

Celebrate your child’s birthday at the OAC by choosing one of the following party types. We look forward to celebrating with you!

Information for all birthday parties

Lodge Birthday Party

Party size: Up to 20 people (including host family, parents and children).

Times offered: Saturdays 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. or Sundays 1 - 3 p.m.


  • Complimentary set-up 30 minutes before the party.
  • Exclusive use of party room for two hours.
  • Admission to the OAC for 20 people.
  • Paper plates and plasticware for 20 people (no cups).
  • Treat bags for 10 children (additional bags can be purchased at $2 each).
  • Special gift for the birthday child.
  • 30-minute educational program.

Cost:  $150, due one week after approval of request; members receive $30 discount.

Cafeteria Birthday Party

Party size

  • Basic package: 21-40 (including host family, parents and children).
  • Plus 20 package: 21-60 (including host family, parents and children).

Times offered: Saturdays 1 - 3 p.m. or Sundays 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.


  • Complimentary set-up 30 minutes before the party.
  • Exclusive use of partitioned area in the cafeteria with seven tables (6’ x 2.5’) and 40 chairs for two hours. Plus 20 package includes three additional round tables with eight seats each. The cafeteria remains open to the public during your event.
  • Admission to the OAC for 40 people for basic package or 60 people for the Plus 20 package.


  • Basic package: $150, due one week after approval of request.
  • Plus 20 package: $225, due one week after approval of request
  • Members receive $30 discount.

Information for all birthday parties

Application: Dates fill quickly, so we recommend booking at least two months in advance.

Online reservation requests are accepted through our registration software: https://secure.rec1.com/MI/michigan-dnr/catalog. Click on the Birthday Party Request tab to view birthday party options.

Once the reservation request is submitted, it will either be approved or denied by OAC staff within five to seven business days. Once approved, you will receive a confirmation. Payment will be due one week after you receive the confirmation.  Guest lists will be due eight to ten days prior to the event.

Account creation: You will need to create a family account online if you haven’t already. Family memberships should be in the database already. We advise using a computer rather than a mobile device to view all options. View this document for step-by-step instructions.

Payment methods: At the time your confirmation is accepted, an online invoice will be created. You can pay your invoice with a credit card (VISA, MasterCard) by logging into your account, by calling the OAC during open hours or at the front desk during open hours. For your online security, do not email your credit card number.

Refund policy: To receive a refund for birthday party, contact the OAC staff by email (DNR-OAC@michigan.gov) at least three weeks prior to the date of the party. This allows others an opportunity to book that date.  Without this timely notice, a refund is not available.

Rental Rules:

  • Please note that both party types have firm attendee limits. There are no provisions for party hosts to invite more guests than the maximum limit of the party space – regardless of how the guests pay. Exceeding the limits of the party space cannot be allowed due to fire code limits, safety and capacity issues. Hosts who invite more than the maximum number of guests will be removed from the party space without refund. Please do not over-invite to avoid this unfortunate situation.
  • Food must be from a commercial establishment with a valid Health Department license and insurance. Cooking on site is not permitted, including use of crockpots or chafing dishes.
  • To preserve the building, we ask that red drinks and red frosting are not brought into the building.
  • Food and beverages are prohibited in the exhibit areas.
  • Glass containers are not permitted.
  • Decorations may not be taped anywhere in the Outdoor Adventure Center.
  • Tablecloths and Mylar balloons are allowed – no latex/rubber balloons.
  • Glitter or confetti is not allowed.
  • Parties must end promptly so areas can be readied for the next group or activity.

Information for party guests

Supervision: During a visit through the Outdoor Adventure Center, children MUST always be accompanied by an adult.  When a child climbs into the middle of the tree, he/she will end up on the second floor.  An adult will need to meet the child on the second floor.

Parking: Complimentary parking can be found in our gated lot at St. Aubin and Atwater. Street parking is limited, and there is a strict “ticket and tow” enforcement for parking violations. Please advise your guests to be sure they are in a legal parking space to avoid problems.
