Outdoor Adventure Center Volunteering Opportunities

At the Michigan DNR Outdoor Adventure Center, we “inspire, educate and connect” our guests to the natural, cultural and historic resources of the state of Michigan. As a State of Michigan volunteer at the Outdoor Adventure Center, you can assist with our mission. Join us in teaching our guests how to hold a fishing pole, paddle a kayak, buckle up before driving an ORV and more. Volunteering provides many opportunities to connect with folks of all ages and encourage a love of the outdoors.

In addition to the various everyday happenings at the OAC, many volunteer opportunities are available during special event weekends. For those who enjoy interacting with the public, we have opportunities greeting and directing guests, providing information or assisting at stations. If you enjoy independent tasks, you can help with office activities, mailings, preparing crafts and much more.

See volunteer job descriptions.

While a background in and love of the outdoors is a plus, we can teach you everything you need to know in order to be an effective member of our team. We will acquaint you with our operational guidelines through the same training our paid staff receive.

OAC volunteers enjoy a flexible schedule and great benefits:

  • Unique, innovative work environment.
  • Free training.
  • Convenient hours.
  • Free admission to the Outdoor Adventure Center for you and three guests several times each year.
  • Discounts on classes and experiences.
  • Free parking.
  • Free uniform shirt, name tag and lanyard.
  • Annual recognition.
