Outdoor Adventure Center - Active Aging Adventures/Senior Stroll - Riverfront Rambles: Shipwrecks and Salties
Join a naturalist for a casual stroll along the riverfront and through Milliken State Park. Every other month, we’ll focus on a topic related to natural or cultural history. Wear your walking shoes and dress for the weather – we’ll go out rain, snow or shine! Meet just outside the Outdoor Adventure Center.
In November, we travel the riverfront on our way to Old Mariners’ Church the day before the anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Learn the difference between salties and lakers, some of the history of shipping and shipwrecks on the Great Lakes, and how to track these amazing ships. You can also opt to meet us at Old Mariners’ Church at 10 for a short tour and talk about the history of the church.
NOTE: Old Mariners’ Church does not have any ramps or elevators. There are several shallow steps into the front entrance and 11 standard steps into the sanctuary. Additional floors and bathrooms are accessible via a staircase with a single stairlift.
This is a free off-site event. Preregistration is required.
