State of Michigan wins North American Employee Engagement Award
The State of Michigan was announced as the winner of the Government Agency Employee Engagement Award at the North American Employee Engagement Conference in Chicago on Thursday, June 7.
Michigan was one of three finalists, including the Washington State Department of Corrections and the Colorado Department of Transportation, selected from several nominees internationally. The Office of Performance and Transformation (OPT) accepted the award on behalf of the State of Michigan.
“The State of Michigan led a huge undertaking and the results delivered so far are, quite simply, worth winning this award,” said CEO and founder of the Employee Engagement Awards Matt Manners.
The Government Agency Award is presented to an agency that has undertaken a project that has driven employee engagement in the organization. According to the nomination, “The State of Michigan is one of only a few states to conduct an employee survey on a consistent basis, according to research conducted by the Institute for Public Sector Employee Engagement.”
“Due to the creativity and innovation of thousands of state employees, the most recent employee survey, completed on February 28, 2017, indicated, for the first time, the percentage of highly engaged employees at the State of Michigan exceeded the high performing benchmark representing leading organizations in manufacturing, services, healthcare/hospital, retail, telecommunications, and utilities.”
A core team within the OPT is tasked with administering the Employee Engagement Survey to all 47,000 employees, analyzing results, and helping departments develop and execute Employee Engagement Action Plans.
OPT Executive Director Jeff Bankowski said, “Research shows that employee engagement is a major predictor of organizational success. I am so proud of the work from our entire workforce across the state that has collaborated over the past few years to make this happen. We look forward to building on this foundation as we continue to reinvent Michigan.”
