  • May 29th is 529 Day. It is a day to for us to celebrate and educate parents, grandparents and others about the benefits of 529 college savings plans like the Michigan Education Trust (MET). MET is Michigan's 529 prepaid tuition program. It allows you to prepay undergraduate tuition at today's rates. MET contracts are easy to set up, easy to use, and, most important, an easy way to save for college. A MET contract is one of the smartest investments you can make in a child.

One day wasn't enough time for us to celebrate all the great benefits a 529 plan has to offer. So, this year we are celebrating May 28th and May 29th. If you open a new MET contract May 28 or May 29, 2020 and use coupon code 529DAY2020 during your online enrollment we will give you a $100 Matching Grant!  Learn more about the Match rules and eligibility requirements.

  • Legacy of Learning: Inheritance funds MET contract purchases

    The Gilberts

Verle Gilbert Jr. and wife Cynthia purchased 10 Michigan Education Trust prepaid tuition contracts for their grandchildren, great-nices and great-nephew.

Even though they died years ago and initially quit school before earning high school diplomas, Erlean and Verle Gilbert Sr. continue to inspire their family’s pursuit of higher education.

“They were very much in favor of education,” said daughter-in-law Cynthia Gilbert, who with husband Verle Jr. is continuing their legacy by establishing college savings accounts for the family’s younger generations – including the spring 2019 purchase of 10 Michigan Education Trust prepaid tuition contracts to benefit seven grandchildren, two great-nieces and one great-nephew.

“I guess what it boils down to is we also believe in education and we decided we might as well invest in our family,” Cynthia said.

    Jerod Clover

Jerod Clover attended the University of Michigan with a Michigan Education Trust contract.

Ingrid and Phil used a combination of techniques to stay within their financial means while sending their two sons-- Luke and Jerod-- to the University of Michigan.

They used two strategies: community college classes and prepaid tuition contracts from the Michigan Education Trust. But what is most interesting is that Ingrid and Phil didn't buy the MET contracts when their sons were young. They made the purchases when both boys were teenagers.
