Your support during the 2019 tax filing season is urgently needed! In order to retain our status as one of the check-off options on the Michigan Individual Income Tax Return we need to generate a minimum of $50,000.
The 2018 tax filing season was the first time Fostering Futures Scholarship Trust Fund was granted an income tax check-off box. During the 2018 tax year, more than 2,800 individuals opted to use the checkoff, generating more than $30,000.
Contributions can be made by submitting the Voluntary Contribution Schedule (Form 4642) when filing your Michigan income tax return. If you use tax software such as Turbo Tax, the voluntary contributions section is typically found after you complete the local section of your state tax return. You have the option to direct $5, $10, or any amount greater than $10 from your income tax refund to the Fostering Futures Scholarship Trust Fund.
In Michigan, there are approximately 13,000 children in the foster care system. As they reach adult age, having adequate resources to attain their dream of a college education is critical to having a successful future. The Fostering Futures Scholarship Trust Fund, a Michigan Education Trust Charitable Tuition Program provides scholarships to young adults that have experienced foster care to help them achieve a college education.
