Governor Rick Snyder of Michigan
Aug. 3, 2015
LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today called for a primary election on Nov. 3, 2015, and a general election on March 8, 2016, to ensure the most expedient and cost-effective opportunity for Grand Rapids area voters to decide who will fill the House seat vacated by state Rep. Brandon Dillon.
“Putting this question on the ballot during already scheduled elections is the quickest way for voters to be represented as soon as possible while also being financially prudent,” Snyder said. “Aligning these dates allows residents to vote on multiple questions in just one trip to the polls and minimizes cost impact for communities in the district.”
Dillon, of Grand Rapids, informed the governor on July 13 that he would resign his seat effective Aug. 3. Gov. Snyder worked with House leadership, Rep. Dillon and the Michigan Bureau of Elections to determine the most appropriate schedule to replace him.
