Gov. Rick Snyder calls special election to fill seat in 11th state House District

Tuesday, July 5, 2016

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Snyder today announced a special election will be held in the 11th District of the state House of Representatives to fill the vacancy created from the passing of state Rep. Julie Plawecki.

“While we are still mourning the passing of Rep. Plawecki, the residents of the 11th House District need representation,” Snyder said.

A special primary election to fill the vacancy for the remainder of this term will be held on Aug. 30, 2016, and the general election for the remainder of Plawecki’s term will be held on Nov. 8, 2016. The winner of that November election would serve through the end of 2016.

The primary candidate who will run for the next term beginning in January will be determined by Democratic precinct delegates in the 11th House District. The general election for the next term also will be held on Nov. 8.

Candidates wishing to be on the Aug. 30 primary ballot must file by Tuesday, July 12 at 4 p.m. For additional information and other relevant dates for this special election, see the letter filed with the Secretary of State’s office.
