Governor Rick Snyder of Michigan
WHEREAS, under the National Security Act of 1947, the Marine Corps' primary responsibilities include the seizure or defense of advanced naval bases and other land operations to support naval campaigns and the development of tactics, technique and equipment used by amphibious landing forces in coordination with the Air Force and Army; and,
WHEREAS, the United States Marine Corps consists of more than 200,000 active duty Marines and nearly 40,000 reserve Marines; and,
WHEREAS, on this day, we encourage citizens throughout Michigan to honor all members of the Marine Corps as these brave citizens have demonstrated utmost loyalty, commitment and dedication to our nation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 10, 2011 as Marine Corps Appreciation Day in Michigan.
