Heritage Fund Board

The five-member Heritage Fund Board was created through an interlocal agreement as a result of a second amendment to the gaming compact between the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians and the state of Michigan. The Board is responsible for overseeing the Michigan Native American Heritage Fund, providing grants for initiatives which promote positive relationships between K-12 schools, colleges, universities or local governments and Michigan’s federally-recognized Indian tribes.
 
The Board consist of 5 members: The Director of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights or their designee, 2 members appointed by the Tribe, and 2 members appointed by the Governor. Members appointed by the Governor serve at the pleasure of the Governor.
