Environmental Justice

In February of 2017, Governor Rick Snyder created the Environmental Justice Work Group (EJWG) to develop and provide recommendations to the Governor that improve environmental justice awareness and engagement in state and local agencies. As recommended in their March 2018 report, the Governor created an Environmental Ombudsman and an Environmental Interagency Work Group to respond to arising environmental justice issues around the state, and implement recommendations across state government from the EJWG report.

The Environmental Justice Interagency Working Group is composed of representatives from the state departments of Environmental Quality, Health and Human Services, Civil Rights, and Transportation, as well as the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
