September 4, 2019 -- Drivers on M-26 in the Mason area should expect lane closures and brief delays beginning later this week as a Houghton County flood repair project gets under way.

Tentatively starting Thursday, Sept. 5, traffic will be disrupted on M-26 near the intersection of Forsman Road while a contractor for Houghton County works to repair damage from last year’s Father’s Day flood. One lane of alternating traffic will be open using a combination of temporary traffic signals and traffic regulators.

Traffic impacts on M-26 are expected to last for about a week. Motorists are reminded to slow down and drive with caution in the work zone.

With oversight from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the county is working to reconstruct the road, improve drainage and replace a storm sewer crossing at the M-26/Forsman Road intersection. Work on Forsman Road will require a posted detour.
