MDOT is investing $3.5 million to repair M-5 between 12 Mile Road and Pontiac Trail by performing concrete pavement repairs on 3 miles of road. The project begins with the closure of southbound from Maple Road to 12 Mile Road at 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 22 and is expected to be completed in late June. Drivers will see portable message signs advising of the upcoming closure.

This project is being coordinated with local agencies and will be completed before the planned projects by the Road Commission for Oakland County begins work in the same area. To enable this coordination and expedite the project, part of this work requires closing M-5 completely one direction at a time, beginning with the southbound lanes from Maple Road to 12 Mile Road. Once southbound M-5 work is completed, the northbound lanes will be closed from 12 Mile Road to Pontiac Trail.

All roads crossing M-5 will remain open with one lane open in each direction through the intersections. The 12 Mile Road ramps to southbound M-5 will remain open while the southbound lanes are closed.

The closure of M-5 during construction will improve the safety of the work zone by restricting drivers from entering the work area, endangering themselves and workers.
