Traffic alert: US-2 Cut River Bridge detour to begin Saturday

Aug. 4, 2017 -- Starting Saturday, US-2 will be closed at the Heath M. Robinson Memorial Cut River Bridge in Mackinac County due to backups and traffic congestion at the bridge. A signed detour will be in place. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing $1.3 million to repair the bridge.

Eastbound traffic will be detoured on Prater Boulevard to Cut River Road and back to US-2. The detour will be reversed for westbound traffic. The detour route is approximately 3.6 miles. Commercial vehicles are encouraged to detour using I-75, M-123, M-28, and M-117.

Work on the bridge involves structural steel repairs, painting, substructure patching, stone facing repair, and approach work. The project includes a three-year performance warranty.

Structural steel work was planned to start in September, but this work is being expedited. The project is expected to be completed in November.
