Warren, MI - The Michigan Civil Rights Commission will hold its first meeting of 2019 at 1 p.m. on Monday January 28. The public meeting will be followed by a public hearing to examine discrimination in Michigan’s K-12 schools in Warren at 3:00 p.m.
Both the meeting and the hearing will be held at Macomb Community College, John Lewis Center, Building K, Room K-301, located at 14500 E. 12 Mile Rd., Warren, MI 48088.
This is the fifth in a series of hearings by the Commission exploring questions of inequity in Michigan’s K-12 system, as well as answers on overcoming those barriers. Previous hearings have been held in Ypsilanti, Traverse City, Grand Rapids and Detroit.
The Michigan Department of Civil Rights, the operational arm of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, is charged with investigating and resolving discrimination complaints and works to prevent discrimination through educational programs that promote voluntary compliance with civil rights laws. The Department also provides information and services to businesses on diversity initiatives and equal employment law.
