November 12, 2019 -- The new US-2 bridge over the Brevort River in Mackinac County is expected to be completed Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Crews are finishing work on the Michigan Department of Transportation's (MDOT) $2.3 million Brevort River bridge replacement project. A closure and detour of US-2, which has been in place since Labor Day, is expected to be lifted Wednesday.
The old bridge, originally constructed in 1935, was narrow and considered functionally obsolete. The previous structure was 55 feet long and 38 feet wide with shoulders. The new bridge is 110 feet long and a little more than 46 feet wide with 10-foot shoulders.
Work on the project began in September, with an expedited schedule designed to limit the economic impacts of the US-2 closure.
The new structure will be wider, safer and more efficient for the motoring public and pedestrians.
