Afghanistan Conflict Plates

Michigan is proud to recognize its men and women who earned the Afghanistan campaign medal while serving in the U.S. military during Operation Enduring Freedom's Afghanistan Conflict (which began Oct. 7, 2001) with a special veteran plate. The Afghanistan Campaign Medal Veteran plate is available to Afghanistan veterans who received the campaign medal and their spouses in either the standard design (shown on this page) or the Spectacular Peninsulas design.

The fee for the standard design is $5. The Spectacular Peninsulas design is $10. If you are purchasing an original plate or replacing an existing plate when renewing, other registration fees may apply. You may also personalize your veteran plate for an additional fee.

Veteran plates can only be used on passenger cars, pickup trucks, vans and motor homes. Motorcycles, trailers and vehicles used commercially are not eligible.

Veterans and their spouses interested in obtaining the Afghanistan Campaign Medal Veteran plate may apply at their local Secretary of State office or by mailing in a completed Application for Veteran License Plate. The Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty form (DD-214) indicating a medal award must be presented when applying for the Afghanistan Campaign Medal plate.

Note:  Veterans who served in the Afghanistan conflict but were not issued the Afghanistan campaign medal are eligible for the Afghanistan Conflict Veteran plate.
