Secretary of State
You have two options for renewing your repair facility license:
Renew your repair facility license by mail.
Renewing your repair facility license by mail:
Fill out the enclosed, preprinted renewal application you received in the mail. Update any information as necessary. Some updates may require that you include additional documentation with your application.
Mail your completed application (including any attachments) and payment to: Department of State, Licensing Unit, Lansing, MI, 48918
Your renewed license is valid for one year, beginning on the date your application was approved by the department.
Renewal applications are mailed about 60 days before your license expires. If you haven’t received your renewal materials within 30 days of your license expiration date, please contact the Business Licensing Section at 888-SOS-MICH (888-767-6424) or for help.
Avoid a late fee. Renew your repair facility license before it expires.
Repairing vehicles after your renewal deadline
If your repair facility license is expired, and you have submitted your renewal application and fee on or before the expiration date, you may continue to perform vehicle repairs while your application is processed.
It is illegal to perform vehicle repairs without a valid repair facility license. However, if your repair facility license has expired and you send in a late renewal application and fee, vehicle repairs may be performed only after your application has been received by the Department of State. Once your application is approved, you will be mailed a new license.
