In addition to an online application portal, and a constitutionally required mailing of 250,000 applications to Michigan registered voters selected at random, the Department of State made applications available in several languages.
In the first year administering the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission Process, the Department of State periodically opened an optional public comment period to solicit feedback from the public.
From February 26 through March 27, 2020, the Department of State opened public comment on the random selection methodology that will be used to select the 200 semifinalists in June 2020. Additionally, from July through August 2019, the Department of State opened public comment on the draft application and eligibility guidelines for applicants.
