JUNE 19, 2018
Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson was honored to help welcome U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Michigan and Ford Field on Monday, where he delivered his first major policy address to the Detroit Economic Club.
Secretary Pompeo discussed a wide range of foreign policy issues including North Korea and ongoing renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). He commended Michigan's role as a leader in the automotive and agricultural industries and stressed the importance of America's economic strength in fostering diplomatic relations and promoting democracy around the world.
“Michigan is the number one comeback state in the nation," Johnson said. "We are so proud Secretary Pompeo chose to deliver his first major policy address right here in Detroit.”
Johnson has served on the Detroit Economic Club's Board of Directors since 2013. The DEC was formed in 1934 as "a non-partisan, non-profit organization committed to the discussion and debate of important business, government and social issues."
