Sixth "Ready for November" episode focuses on voting before Nov. 3
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson interviews three leaders from Michigan sports teams in the sixth episode of Ready for November, a video series Benson’s office launched last month to inform voters ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
Joining Benson for the “Voting before Election Day” discussion were Arn Tellem, vice chairman of the Detroit Pistons; Mel Tucker, head football coach at Michigan State University; and Joique Bell, a Detroit Lions Legend and former player.
Each of the guests and their organizations have been outstanding partners working with the Department of State and local clerks to ensure a successful election. The Pistons have provided their team facility as a receiving board for Detroit elections precincts and are giving all employees a paid day off Election Day to vote and serve as poll workers.
Michigan State University coaches and players are serving as trusted voices to get accurate election information out and the school is helping promote voter awareness and participation in other ways as well. Among their efforts, the Detroit Lions are providing Ford Field as a receiving board for Detroit and are giving staff Election Day off to participate.
Secretary Benson thanked Tellem, Tucker and Bell for their leadership in helping drive voter participation and reminded voters that they can vote right now if they choose to do so.
“You don’t have to wait for Election Day, Nov. 3, this year, to cast your ballot. There are two safe and secure options right now to vote.” Secretary Benson said. “You can vote from home by requesting your ballot at Michigan.gov/Vote. It will arrive in the mail. You can vote it, sign the back of the envelope and you can mail it back by October 19 or you can deliver it to your local drop box or local clerk’s office.”
And then you can also vote in person at your local clerk’s office anytime between now through Monday, November 2.”
