Which transactions can be completed by appointment at a Secretary of State branch?

The following transactions may be completed by appointment:
 
  • First-time Michigan driver's license, ID, permit
    Customers are encouraged to pre-apply for their first-time driver's license or state ID ahead of their appointment online at Michigan.gov/SOS
     
  • Driver's license/ID renewal or conversion to REAL ID
    Customers who don't need to take a new photo for their driver's license or ID are encouraged to renew online at Michigan.gov/SOS or at a self-service station
     
  • Driver's license/ID replacement or correction
    Customers who don't need to take a new photo for their driver's license or ID are encouraged to request a replacement online at Michigan.gov/SOS or at a self-service station
     
  • Enhanced driver's license/ID
    Customers who don't need to take a new photo for their driver's license or ID are encouraged to renew or replace their credential online at Michigan.gov/SOS or at a self-service station
     
  • Title transfers and corrections
    Vehicle owners are reminded that a paper title is required to transfer a title. 

  • Testing
    A list of testing optons is avaiable online.
     
  • Disability parking placard
    First-time permanent or temporary placard only.

     
  • Fleet/seasonal commercial vehicle renewals
    A list of fleet/seasonal commercial vehicle renewal options by appointment is available online.

     
  • Moped/Snowmobile/Watercraft/Non-Titled Trailer
    Transfer of ownership only.

     
  • Document authentication 
    limited to eight locations

Customers also have the option to schedule an appointment to complete two or more transactions at one time.
