Secretary of State
Michigan is proud to recognize its men and women who earned the Vietnam Service Medal while serving in the U.S. military during the Vietnam War (Feb. 28, 1961, through May 7, 1975) with a special veteran plate. The Vietnam Service Medal Veteran plate is available to Vietnam War veterans who received the service medal and their spouses in the standard design (shown on this page).
The fee is $5. If you are purchasing an original plate or replacing an existing plate when renewing, other registration fees may apply. You may also personalize your veteran plate for an additional fee.
Veteran plates can only be used on passenger cars, pickup trucks, vans and motor homes. Motorcycles, trailers and vehicles used commercially are not eligible.
Veterans and their spouses interested in obtaining the Vietnam Service Medal Veteran plate may apply at their local Secretary of State office or by mailing in a completed Application for Veteran License Plate. The Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty form (DD-214) indicating a medal award must be presented when applying for the Vietnam Service Medal Veteran plate. The official Service Medal Award Certificate issued by any of the Armed Forces branches will also be accepted.
Note: Veterans who served in the Vietnam War but were not issued the Vietnam service medal are eligible for the Vietnam War Veteran plate.
