Secretary of State
The Department of State can provide vehicle records (which include registration and title histories along with supporting documents) upon request. Record information is available to individuals, commercial customers and government agencies.
You must meet the criteria requirements under the Driver Privacy Protection Act in order to receive record information.
Commercial users with a permissible use for the information as allowed by the law can obtain driving, vehicle, mobile home, watercraft and recreational vehicle records through Direct Access. They are billed monthly for this service.
Users must have access to a computer with the required network connections. They also will need to submit a letter of application, apply for a $25,000 “Information Purchaser’s” Surety Bond, sign a contract and designate the person or people who will access the account.
Apply for the Direct Access program under Direct Access and List Sales Services. If you have any questions about the application process or the program, email: CommercialServices@Michigan.gov.
