Secretary of State
The Department of State can provide vehicle records (which include registration and title histories along with supporting documents) upon request. Record information is available to individuals, commercial customers and government agencies.
You must meet the criteria requirements under the Driver Privacy Protection Act in order to receive record information.
The Michigan Department of State is authorized by the state legislature to sell limited customer data to reduce the need for tax revenue. Many purchasers are universities, research organizations and other governments that use the large dataset for research purposes. Sales do not include customer phone numbers or email addresses, and no customer data can be used for marketing or solicitation purposes. MDOS checks compliance on all sales and violations can be prosecuted as felony infractions.
Bulk information sales are available for specific driver and vehicle information requests. This information isn’t to be used for purposes of marketing or solicitation and is provided in strict compliance with state and federal laws, including the Driver Privacy Protection Act.
To request more information about bulk information sales, email ListSales@Michigan.gov and enter “Information Guide” in the subject line.
Direct Access and bulk record subscribers set up online accounts allowing them to obtain record information electronically. The delivery method for the record information will be explained when you open an account.
