Please wait for Authentication- It's A Crime!
It's a crime to purchase cigarettes and other tobacco products by mail, over the internet, or in any other way unless the seller is properly licensed by the State of Michigan and each cigarette pack is affixed with a Michigan tobacco stamp. Violations are punishable by up to five years imprisonment, along with seizures of assets from anyone possessing illegally purchased cigarettes. Consumer Warning Notice for Tobacco Retailers
The Michigan Department of Treasury and Michigan State Police are working to educate Michigan residents about the consequences of purchasing tobacco products from unlicensed sources. The campaign is designed to inform consumers about the Tobacco Products Tax Act violations that occur when purchasing from unlicensed sources. We want consumers to understand the civil consequences (tax, penalty and interest), and criminal consequences (fines, seizures, incarceration) they face when purchasing tobacco products from Internet vendors, through the mail or from retail stores in bordering states.
Tobacco retailers are encouraged to download this Consumer Warning Notice and prominently display it at their retail locations.
