How many years do I have to claim an income tax refund, homestead property tax credit or home heating credit for a prior year?
You have four years from the due date of the original return to claim an income tax refund or homestead property tax credit.
A home heating credit claim cannot be filed for prior years. A home heating credit claim for tax year 2021 must be received by September 30, 2022. An extension of time to file does not extend the due date. If the home heating credit is received after September 30th, the credit will be denied.
