What is the Law Clerk Program?
The Michigan Tax Tribunal Law Clerk Program offers law students on-the-job training in the area of Michigan tax law and tax dispute resolution. Students not only work with Tribunal Members, they also receive regular feedback and "class" instruction in aspects of the Tribunal.
How do I apply?
Students applying for a law clerk position should submit the following information:
1. Resume and cover letter,
2. Law school transcript,
3. Writing sample.

Will I receive academic credit?
Law Clerks may be eligible for academic credit. Check with your educational institution for rules and qualifications for credit. Generally, clerks receive the greatest benefit from roughly 16-20 hours of employ per week. This amount of time is vital to adequately train students and provide them with a realistic exposure to the work environment.
Who will I work with during the clerkship?
Law Clerks will primarily work with Tax Tribunal Members, the Tribunal's Chief Clerk and the Tribunal's Administrative Law Specialist.
If I'm selected, will I receive training for the clerkship?
The Michigan Tax Tribunal provides training and instruction to prepare clerks for a successful experience. In addition, regular meetings are held to discuss tax issues. Informal training and direct review of the clerk's work product continues throughout the internship.
How many hours will I work?
Law Clerks are required to work between 10 and 20 hours per week, although additional hours can be arranged. Further, the work is performed at the Tribunal's office in Lansing, Michigan.
