What's New

  • If you are currently participating in TIA workforce development programs or collecting unemployment benefits, the Federal government shutdown will not impact your participation or current claim for unemployment insurance benefits. Unemployment recipients must continue to certify for benefits every two weeks, conduct an active work search, and report any earnings you have while collecting benefits.

    For Federal Employees

If you have been furloughed as a direct result of the federal government shutdown, you may be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits.

President Trump has signed  the ‘‘Government Employee Fair Treatment Act of 2019’ that guarantees back pay for employees who have been furloughed. Any federal employee impacted by the shutdown is encouraged to apply for benefits. It is important to note that employees who receive unemployment benefits and later receive retroactive pay from their employer for the same time period will be required to repay the UI benefits received. Federal employees that are still working during the shutdown generally are not eligible for UI benefits because they are considered still employed.

For more information, review the Federal Government Shutdown FAQ's. If you are a federal employee and need to file for unemployment insurance benefits, visit our MILogin page for more information on how to set up your accounts. From the MILogin page, click on the MiWAM logo to begin the process.
