The Board of Interpreters for the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing was created to help streamline the sign language interpreter certification process, and will advise the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs on all matters related to the certification of interpreters and the administration of the Deaf Persons’ Interpreters Act.
The Board is comprised of 9 members: 2 deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing persons; 4 certified deaf persons' interpreters under Michigan law; 1 person representing organizations responsible for educating interpreters; 1 person representing an organization that serves the deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing community; and 1 public member. Board members serve 4-year terms.
