This council is required as part of MCL 3.1041 or Act 160 of 2008. This act formally enacted into Michigan law the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children. The primary purpose of the interstate compact and the state council is to remove barriers to educational success imposed on military families because of frequent moves and deployment of their parents. The act supports school aged children of active duty military members. In Michigan we have about 3,900 school aged children of active duty military families.
