The 21-member Council was created by PA 332 of 2016, and will be housed within the Department of Transportation. The Council will provide the Governor and Legislature recommendations regarding changes to state policy to ensure Michigan continues to be the world leader in automated, driverless, and connected vehicle technology. The Council is tasked with submitting recommendations for statewide policy changes and updates no later than March 31, 2017, and to continue making recommendations annually thereafter, or more frequently at the Council’s discretion. 12 members are appointed by the governor and serve terms expiring at the pleasure of the governor.
The Michigan Council on Future Mobility was abolished by Executive Order No. 2020-2 and their duties were transferred to the Michigan Council on Future Mobility and Electrification.
