Michigan State Housing Development Authority

The Michigan State Housing Development Authority, established in 1966, provides financial and technical assistance through public and private partnerships to create and preserve safe and decent affordable housing, engage in community economic development activities, develop vibrant cities, towns and villages, and address homeless issues.
MSHDA's loans and operating expenses are financed through the sale of tax-exempt and taxable bonds and notes to private investors, not from state tax revenues.  Proceeds of the bonds and notes are loaned at below-market interest rates to developers of rental housing, and also fund home mortgages and home improvement loans.  MSHDA also administers various federal housing programs.
The board consists of 3 principal heads of departments: the Director of the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, the State Treasurer, and the President of the Michigan Strategic Fund; as well as 4 members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Members serve 4-year terms.
