The Unemployment Insurance Appeals Commission serves Michigan's employees, employers and insurers by addressing and impartially resolving appeals of decisions and orders involving workers' compensation and unemployment insurance benefits. A member of the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Commission must be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Michigan who has been an attorney licensed to practice in Michigan courts for five years or more.
The Commission includes seven members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. After the initial appointments, members are appointed for 4-years terms.
Executive Order No. 2019-13 abolished the Michigan Compensation Appellate Commission created under Executive Order No. 2011-6 and transferred their duties to the Workers' Disability Compensation Appeals Commission and the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Commission.
