Wellogic System

What is Wellogic?

Wellogic is the Internet-based data entry program developed by the state of Michigan in 2000 to provide an easy method for water well drilling and pump installation contractors to submit water well records. Electronic well record submittal satisfies state and county (with the exception of Oakland County) water well record submittal requirements.

Water well records from January 2000 and later are being entered into Wellogic by contractors, local health departments, and the DEQ. Both water well and pump records and abandoned well plugging records are being entered into the database.

Among the key benefits of Wellogic are:

  • The handling, transfer, and storage of paper well records are eliminated.
  • Quick well record completion due to pick-lists featuring commonly used water supply construction terms.
  • Users can retrieve records by searching on a combination of 23 different search fields.
  • The program structure reduces data entry errors, improves data quality, and reduces the time spent on data review.
  • Well record data is much more accessible and useful.
  • Contractors save time and money because they no longer need to visit their local health department to review well records.
  • Latitude and longitude coordinate accuracy can be checked while it is being entered.
  • Customized reports are available to the users.
  • Wellogic interfaces with geographic information system software so that well locations can be presented to the user on detailed maps.

Data gathered with Wellogic is currently being used in many other applications throughout the state.  The data was an integral part of the Groundwater Inventory and Mapping Project (GWIM).  The data is also used for Michigan Groundwater Management Tool (MGMT) formerly known as MIGWWP, Map Image Viewer, the Water Withdrawal Assessment Tool, Wellviewer and WaterTrack.  Having standardized data like that in Wellogic is an important part of developing programs to protect our water supplies from potential sources of contamination.

Use of the Wellogic program is voluntary. A user ID and password are assigned to users who need to enter or modify data.  A user ID and password is not needed to search for water well records.  To request a Wellogic user account, simply go to www.deq.state.mi.us/wellogic, and click on "Request an Account".  If you have any questions about Wellogic or water well records, in general, please contact the Wellogic Staff at wellogic@michigan.gov.
