Recycled Materials Market Directory (RMMD)Although recycling of waste materials is a good idea, the prevention of waste at the source and the reuse of waste without reprocessing are even more desirable from an environmental standpoint. Waste prevention and the in-house reuse of unavoidable waste almost always results in greater cost savings, lower energy consumption and lower environmental impact than recycling. All recyclers are urged to "Think Waste Prevention First." Recycle only those discarded materials that cannot be prevented or reused. If your company is interested in collecting, processing or brokering Michigan-generated recycled material and you would like to list your company in the Michigan Recycled Materials Market Directory (RMMD), please download the RMMD (Word or PDF) form and return it to Jeff Spencer, (deq-assist@michigan.gov) or fax it to 517/241-0858. With questions, call 517/241-5719.
The aim of the Michigan Recycled Materials Market Directory is to help Michigan businesses, communities, institutions and organizations find markets for recyclable materials. This directory includes listings for processors, collectors, and brokers in the following categories:
DISCLAIMER: U.S. EPA Volume to Weight Conversion Table for Collected Recyclables This directory lists companies and organizations that collect, process or serve as brokers for these materials. Information on "Minimum Quantity" and "Area" covered for pick-up is given, when known. However, pick-up is always dependent on how much material is available, the type and quality of the material and geographic area of the business. You may want to contact your local recycling contact for information about recycling businesses operating in your area. The information in this directory is believed to be current, but market conditions for recyclable materials vary and the operations of many recycling companies frequently change. It is important to contact potential collectors, brokers or processors to determine current pick-up practices and prices. OTHER MARKET DIRECTORIES *TIRES Part 169 of Public Act 451 requires haulers and collectors of scrap tires in Michigan to be registered with the Department of Environmental Quality:
