Check Up Program for Small Systems (CUPSS):  CUPSS is a free, easy-to-use, asset management tool for small drinking water and wastewater utilities. CUPSS provides a simple, comprehensive approach based on EPA's highly successful Simple Tools for Effective Performance (STEP) Guide series.  Click on this link to learn more and download the software.

Financial Assessment:  The DEQ offers a free financial assessment of a municipality's water system for those communities with populations of 10,000 or less.  The financial assessment involves:

• A review of the existing revenue system and financial and legal documents
• Recommendations on how to improve the water system's financial and legal structure
• Discussion of asset management tools
• Follow-up involving a meeting with town council members to answer their questions.

All recommendations provided during the financial assessment are exactly that - recommendations, which are voluntary and non-binding.  To find out more, contact Bob Schneider, DEQ, Office of Drinking Water and Municipal Assistance, at schneiderr@michigan.gov or 517-373-4761 or talk to your DEQ district drinking water staff.
