Well Type and Status Codes and Counts

These are the type and status codes used in our database

Well Type

code	definition
BDW	Brine Disposal Well
DH	Dry Hole
GAS	Gas
GBD	Gas & Brine Disposal
GC	Gas Condensate
GIW	Gas Injection Well
GS	Gas Storage
LHL	Lost hole
LOC	Location only - not yet completed
LPG	Liquid Petroleum Gas
M	mineral well (any starting with an "M" )
MNB	Mineral Well
OBS	Observation
OIL	Oil
OTH	Other
OTI	Other Injection
WIW	Water Injection Well

Well Status

code	definition
ACT	Active
DC	Drilling Complete
PB	Plugged Back
PLA	Plugging Approved (Properly plugged and site restored)
PLC	Plugging Completed (Plugged but site needs restoration and approval)
PR	Producing
PW	Permitted Well - not yet drilled
SI	Shut In
SUS	Suspended
TA	Temporarily Abandoned
TP	Terminated Permit
WC	Well Complete

Counts

The counts were generated on Jan 22, 2009 and will give you a general idea of what kind of wells and how many we have in Michigan. The totals change from day to day as new wells and drilled and old ones plugged. These counts do not include mineral wells or wells that were drilled before permits were first issued in 1927. The grand total is higher than the number of permits issued in Michigan because of kicks, sometimes a well has several directional kicks from one hole, and so the same permit number gets counted more than once. These counts reflect API numbers, not permit numbers.
