The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has summarily suspended the medical license of Mukunda D. Mukherjee, M.D.
The MDCH Bureau of Health Professions orders the immediate suspension of a health professional’s license when it believes that the public’s health, safety and welfare warrant emergency action.
Between April 1, 2004, and June 21, 2004, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bay Area Narcotic Enforcement Team conducted an undercover investigation into Mukherjee’s medical practice, which revealed that Mukherjee would issue prescriptions for controlled substances in exchange for money, without conducting a physical examination.
On June 29, 2004, in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division, Mukherjee was charged with one felony count of Conspiracy to Illegally Distribute Schedule II, III and V Controlled Substances and 53 felony counts of Illegal Distribution of Schedule II, III and V Controlled Substances.
On July 13, 2004, MDCH issued an Order of Summary Suspension against Mukherjee. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to determine the status of Mukherjee’s medical license.
