An Introduction to the Michigan Campaign Finance Act

Under the Michigan Campaign Finance Act, Public Act 388 of 1976, the Michigan Department of State (MDOS) receives campaign finance disclosure statements from candidate committees, state-level offices and all judicial offices.  Political action committees (PACs), Ballot Question Committees supporting or opposing statewide issues, and all Political Party Committees (state central, congressional district, county).  Most reports are electronically filed and the data  for these reports can queried or downloaded.  The reports are imaged and made available on the Internet for review by the public.
